An independent study completed by Michael Andrews and Associates Limited in 2007 demonstrates how credit unions and caisses populaires are critical to the economic and social development of Ontario. It found that in addition to financing over 31,000 small and medium-sized businesses, Ontario credit unions and caisses populaires contribute $410 million to the Ontario economy, with more than three-quarters of this generated outside the GTA.
